P.D.CAMPBELL
of Charlevoix Michigan
The Artist’s method
P.D. Campbell painted from photos he took of Charlevoix, his family, and Lake Michigan. He painted in the cold winter months in the dining room of his home. Here are some examples.
In 2009 there was an exhibit of his work at the Charlevoix Historical Society. His surviving daughter, Julia Anne Bandfield, was interviewed by a local paper.
“Ship Entering Charlevoix Channel,” 1963, was a typical subject for Campbell. His home, on the right, overlooked the channel, and allowed him the opportunity to paint what he loved: the Great Lakes, the boats, the water, and other locations around Charlevoix. Campbell started his art hobby in 1949 at the age of 60 following the death of first wife Julia. See the P.D. Campbell Match Painting collection, from photo to oil.
